Don’t forget the Forward Fall in Bauhaus Style Aluminium Canopy Installation!

We were pleased to introduce the Bauhaus Style Aluminium Canopy (with integral LED lighting, and waterspout or optional side panel with integral drainage). They were designed to be simple and swift to install, but the essential ‘forward fall’ towards to integral drainage was missed in the installation instructions by some – so we highlight that here – along with sharing a new video version of the installation guidance.

Introducing the new video installation guide:

When the canopy is installed without the essential forward fall:

Customers who have missed this essential instruction to install canopy with a forward pitch/fall of 0.5%

[N.B. To convert the slope from percent to mm per m, you need to know that 100% is equal to a slope of 1000mm in height per 1m in length.
i.e. 1% = 10mm / m

From https://buildingclub.info (accessed 08/08/23)]

tend to see water marking the building façade behind/below the canopy because the water is flowing back toward the building instead of forward toward the raised lip at the front of the canopy and the spout or outlet (into the integral downpipe hidden in the side panel).

Image  2. Faint water marking on the rendered façade under and at the edges of the mounted door canopy – a consequence of installation without a 0.5% ‘forward fall’.
Image  3. The same door canopy from a different angle – it is subtle just now but indicative of the forward fall being missed at the install.
